Veteran defenseman, Rob Blake has reportedly decided to call it a career after 21 NHL seasons. Blake has rounded out a Hall of Fame career which saw him play 1,270 NHL games and score 240 goals and 537 assists with the Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, and San Jose Sharks. He was awarded the Norris Trophy in 1998, as the NHL's best defenseman, won a gold medal with team Canada in the 2002 Olympics, and won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001. For years he has been regarded as one of the toughest, most dependable defensemen in the game. It will be sad to see him go, as yet another player that I watched as a youngster is retiring.
